Dear Members of the Swedish Chamber,

The anniversary year is in full swing and we held a highly popular and successful Nordic chamber event with Stephen Odell, the Chief Executive Officer of Volvo Cars on March 19th, at the Radisson BLU Hotel Schiphol. Stephen gave an inspiring presentation about the future and challenges of the global automotive industry. The event was followed by the chamber’s Annual General Meeting for 2010. In SAS, we have had the pleasure to announce the opening of four new routes for 2010; to Visby via Stockholm, to Lyon and to Vilnius via Copenhagen and to Bardufoss via Oslo. In the Netherlands we are continuing to work focused on our customers and I expect that you will hear more from us in the coming months with exiting news and offers.

The global economy is from an airline industry perspective picking up slowly, we have seen a slight recovery of the overall Dutch travel market in March 2010, but we are still far from the levels of previous years. This has had an impact not only on SAS, but on all airlines flying to and from the Netherlands. From a globally perspective the low point in the cycle was according to the official IATA statistics in February 2009, and since then the International passenger traffic has picked up 8.6 % year to date. In this light it should be noted that the market has not yet recovered from the losses of 2008 and early 2009. Demand must improve by a further 2 % to return to the peak levels of early 2008.

On a final note, this will be my last as vice chairman and words of a board member since I have accepted a new position in the SAS head office organization. I will start my new duties as of April 1st 2010 and this means that I will be moving back to Sweden with my family after eight years abroad. It’s been a great pleasure to be a part of Swedish Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands. I think that the cooperation is unique in its set-up and commitment, a well working organization with a high level of activity and focus to promote Swedish interests in the Netherlands. Thank you all.

Kind regards,
Håkan Borglund
General Manager
SAS in the Netherlands

Scandinavian food quality mark gateway to a sustainable future
Kiwa opts for sustainability by taking over Aranea in Sweden

By adding Swedish Aranea’s activities to the services it offers, as of 1 January 2010, Kiwa makes promising Scandinavian standards in the field of food certification and organic agriculture available to Dutch companies. Aranea is Sweden’s leading certification body in the field of food quality and organic agriculture; it offers certification services for a quality mark that guarantees that food in Scandinavian shops is produced and offered for sale in a responsible and sustainable manner. This all-inclusive quality mark is new to the Netherlands. Due to stimulating government initiatives, Sweden is at the forefront of organic agriculture and sustainable and responsible food production. Under the KRAV-label, a joint initiative of food producers, environmental groups and animal protection groups, certification schemes for organic production are developed and administrated. One of those schemes is the “Secure Food Products” quality mark, which was specifically developed for retail chains. ICA, the largest supermarket chain in Sweden, now has all its shops inspected and certified by Kiwa.

The Swedish Chamber of Commerce’s annual general meeting took place on the 19th of March at Hotel Radisson Blu Amsterdam Airport. After the meeting the board took the opportunity to thank Kathy Dolk for her commitment as Chairman of the JCC committee. Kathy has been the first Chairman of the JCC and after three years she will hand over the chairmanship to Adam Larsson.

Thank you Kathy!
The JCC Committee thanked Kathy for her three years of committed JCC Chairmanship with a dinner at Restaurant Envy together with the Chairman and Treasurer of the Swe-Cham Board Nils van Dijkman and Folke Lundberg and General Manager Kerstin Gerlagh.  During Kathy’s period as Chairman the JCC grew from idea to a dynamic club with a vivid program and with about 100 members! A JCC website has been realized and every 6 months a new JCC intern arrives to help the JCC organize their events! Fortunately we do not have to say good bye to Kathy since she is also a very active and valued member of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce! Kathy got a very appropriate present: A year subscription of the magazine MAMA!
