With reference to the Law and Tax Seminar by Loyens & Loeff on February 15, 2012 the Swedish Chamber met Harmen van Dam for an interview about Loyens & Loeff and his connection to Sweden: Harmen van Dam (1967) Tax layer, Partner and member of the Tax practice group of Loyens & Loeff. He advises on Dutch corporate tax and dividend tax particularly in respect to transfer pricing, mergers and acquisitions and international corporate structuring and he is head of Loyens & Loeff’s Nordic desk with focus on multinational companies from the Nordic countries. Harmen is a member of the Dutch Association of Tax Advisers, The International Fiscal Association and the Association for Tax Research and the International Bar Association. He teaches regularly at the International Tax Center in Leiden and at the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD). Last but not least for the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, Harmen van Dam is representing Loyens & Loeff as a member and Patron for nearly 10 years.

Harmen was born in Leiden and after finishing Tax Law studies at the University of Leiden in 1991 he started his carrier at Loyens & Loeff. In 1993 he moved to Unilever where he accepted the challenge of an exchange between Unilever HQ and their New York office. The main target in New York was to improve the communication with the company over sea and the HQ in the Netherlands for the benefit of better mutual understanding. After three years in New York he returned to Rotterdam and a few more years at Unilever HQ the sheer pleasure of working within the fiscal sector and to face the challenges to search for fiscal solutions brought him back to Loyens & Loeff in 1998 where he became Partner in 2000.
